Our Anniversary Concert
Sunday afternoon of October 27th 2013 marked the five-year anniversary of the Celtic Choir, an event we duly celebrated with a wonderful concert for family and friends.
After much practice, we arrived well prepared to provide for a beautiful and atmospheric afternoon for our audience. We offered a colorful variety of our most beautiful songs from the past five years. The concert commenced with the Irish song "Young Rose McCann", a piece we had practiced as one of our first five years ago. "Molly Malone" also made our selection for the afternoon. Moreover, we offered many other songs, some of which had been newly arranged since or are now sung in four parts such as "Ashgrove", "Greensleeves" or "Sospan Fach". Let us also not forget here the piece "Drunken Sailor" with its imaginative arrangement. Our musical repertoire allowed our audience to realize how much the Celtic Choir's performance has improved over the past five years and that the Choir does not shy away from difficult musical challenges. Other concert highlights included a variety of songs performed in smaller ensembles as well as the choir's men offering "New York Girls", a song of their own. Though the Choir experienced a shortage of men for some time, we are now happy to feature a male voice, a wonderful development for our Choir indeed.
Some titles invited audience participation, an offer many of our listeners took up with much enthusiasm. Concert intermission featured tea, coffee, homemade cakes, which rounded off the afternoon's already joyful and relaxed atmosphere.
All of us owe much to Director Elizabeth Ahrens-Assem, without whom the Celtic Choir would have never realized its potential.
Being a member of the Choir is a lot of fun as there is joy in singing, good fellowship and an ever open mind and readiness to experiment with and meet new challenges.
